I'm aware that for each page wordcount can be accessed in the 'more info' menu at the top right of the screen. I have a complex workspace with many sub-pages and I'm wondering if there is a functionality or an extension I could use to find out the total word count of everything within a workspace

It is not possible to count words like that. The words count usually happens in the visible or active page and not in a group of documents or pages.

This is how it works in any text editor and not just in Notion.
