I'm wanting to find the easiest way to backup my notion workspace for free. I'm wondering if I share my notion to a backup email unrelated to my current one, whether that is as effective as backing it up through a third-party app?

No, you are sharing the same Notion workspace, so whatever it happens to it, like you delete it by accident, it will be deleted, no matter the users in it and who has shared access.
By exporting, you export the data, not the workspace, so you can import your pages, but not the layout, views or structure you have.
If you mean share it with another Notion account and then duplicate it there, it can work, but you will have to delete, duplicate, delete, duplicate and repeat the process every day to have an exact copy of the workspace.
